An Interactive, Clickable Visual Scrapbook of Music, Memory, Pixel Art, Musical Echolalia, and the Real Stories that Live Inside the Searching for Stars Universe

A Searching for Stars Memory Portal Experience!
This is an interactive scrapbook experience blending personal photography, pixel art reinterpretation, and music-driven storytelling. A digital memory archive within Searching for Stars, a multimedia memoir shaped by what I call musical echolalia: the instinctive way my mind organizes memory through music. I don’t just remember events chronologically. I remember them scored, sequenced, and replayed like personal music videos. This is where lived experience and interpretation exist side by side, sharing the same frame. A live-action/animation hybrid of sorts!
Each image functions as a portal, connecting to pieces inspired by the songs that anchored specific chapters of my life. Here, pixel art, real photography, and cross-generational soundtracks coexist in a cohesive visual universe. This digital scrapbook explores how music becomes memory and how memory becomes identity.
These fragments weave nostalgia, family history, marriage, motherhood, resilience, and generational memory into one evolving constellation. Visitors can click any piece to explore the deeper story behind it.
Created by Lauren Nixon-Matney, Searching for Stars is a cross-genre storytelling project and multimedia memoir exploring how songs anchor identity, emotion, legacy, and healing across decades.
